Gas to Electric Conversion of a Shaker Furnace for the Fastener Industry

Shaker Furnace
Shaker Furnace

A customer in the fastener industry needed a company with the experience and technical ability to perform safety tests on their gas shaker furnace, and carry out necessary next steps. CHE International was contracted to perform all of the required work, and following a comprehensive analysis and testing protocol, it was found that the gas component upgrades, system maintenance, and required safety checks were cost prohibitive. We determined that a more effective solution would be a conversion to electric heating.

Our dedicated team of design engineers, electrical engineers, electricians, and certified welders collaborated to perform the conversion with a special focus on reducing downtime and fitting the heating elements into the small space available. The furnace was re-insulated with a dense ceramic fiber along with board and brick, and a ventilation system was installed on the outer shell for surface cooling. Work was carried out around the clock, and the conversion was completed with a 3 week turnaround time, installed on location at Carson, California. The finished unit upheld AMS 2750 D standard covering thermal processing equipment. The customer was satisfied with the price point as well as the high quality of the finished equipment, reporting that this unit operates with a cooler surface than their other furnaces.
